Donald Sinden wins the "hammy" award every time.

Um, John Cleese as Basil Fawlty and Richard Wilson as Victor Meldrew seem to spring to mind, or like stampede through it.

'I don't be-lieve it!'

S.

Alan Rickman (Sheriff of Nottingham) in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, rants a good few times.
Warren Mitcell as Alf Garnett.

Never seen any of the above, but Adam Sandler seems to be particularly good at ranting, especially in that film where he's playing golf (for the life of me I can't remember the title).

Is Withnail and I any good?

joko you might like radio ranting. Jonathon ross was hilarious and they've kept the "Baby Rant" on his r2 website for ages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/ross/

cheers guys

but i don't mean just general ranting, i mean camp, theatrical, over the top, 'swoony', overacting ranting.

any thoughts?

jim cairy in most films he does ar over the top hammy rantings, face pulling and general OTT acting!!

The hammiest, most smug, most luvvie film ever has to be Peter's Friends. A nightmare concoction of Stephen Fry, Tony Slattery (jeeeeez), "Emmie" Thompson and "Kenny" Branagh. And if that wasn't enough, there was a part for Emmie's real life Mum, Phyllida Law. Every time Ms Law had a line Emma could be seen hands clasped together, head cocked on one side, sublime smile on her face, whilst she mentally took her mother through her lines. Yes, we all love our mums but never have I been to a job interview and asked if there was a vacancy for my mother too. <retch>

Lititia Dean from Eastenders(Sharon Watts) now theres an over actor if ever i saw one.

Fred Elliot from Coronation Street.

I say, Fred Elliot
