LCD or Plasma?

I'm thinking of buying a new tv,hopefully a flat screen but i dont know what to get LCD or Plasma? can any one help?

LCD are cheaper, and are more readily available because of that. The picture isn't as clear as plasma though - in fact many of them have a considerably worse picture than your CRT tv. But the quality is improving all the time. Spend a long time in the showroom - these things ain't cheap.

Just realised, from that link you have to click on picture & sound tab, then just under where it tells the difference between lcd and plasma click on reveal more.

I've just brought the Sonia Bravia 26" lcd and its fantastic! Had a bargain aswell...RRP �1300, I got it for �899 off amazon!

lcd is superior to plasma with a (slightly) better picture.

find a tv you like,then start your research in earnest.

tip - use sites like comet to give you clues but DO NOT buy from them ! I guarantee you that if you visit price runner,it will list sites selling the same tv at much much cheaper prices.

LCD is more expensive than plasma, particularly when you compare size for size screens.

The production plants that produce LCD's however have had massive investment due to the global roll-out of HD TV. The old issues of dead pixels seem to be improving rapidly, so expect the prices to drop as suplies become more plentiful.

Plasma is a better option if screen size is everything, as you can buy a 42" plasma for about the same as a 32/36" LCD. However this will soon change, so I'd say hang on for an LCD (Better picture, and lasts longer than a plasma). Whatever you buy make sure it is HD TV ready.

Do both plasma and LCD have a distorted picture when watched at an angle. I know one of them does - if so which is the one that you can only watch dead centre and isn't prectical for a famly as only one person will get a lear picture

I bought an LCD 28inch flatscreen tv from comet last year, and its HD ready. I hate buying from Comet, but if u haven't got time to shop around then I recommend getting HD ready and I really like LG tv's. They've been great. (LG the brand, not another fancy abbreviation). The screen is doesn't distort at all from any angle, unless ure behind the tv, in which case, u won't see a thing. But these new tv's come with a plethora of scart sockets and computer connections.

LG not an abbreviation ? and theres silly old me thinking it stood for Lucky Goldstar !!!!

lcd's tv's have a 'viewing angle' which is normally wide enough to easily suit your normal viewing environment.

You don't have to be so flippant Mattk. I meant that LG isn't a technical term that describes a function of a product like HD meaning High Definition.
