Autopsy

Did anyone see the public autopsy on tv during the week and if you did what did you think of it ...I thought it was amazing with mixed feelings of sadness for the man but mesmerised by the whole procedure I still feel slightly stunned by the idea of a public viewing of such a personal moment in a mans death.

As humans we seem to get very defensive when faced with someone willing to demystify our bodies. That is the main reason why this procedure was considered so taboo when televised. We are so scared of seeing a reflection of our bodies being at the mercy of another, completely helpless. I think the reason doctors and sugeons can do their job is because they are able to detach themselves from the significance of their own bodies and concentrate on the ailments of others, almost as a non-bodied-person. Wierd I know, but that's my take.
