star wars question

Having a new born son, I figure soon enough I will have to "force" him to watch the star wars movies..

However, which way round should we watch them?

Should we watch them prequal(sequals) first?

Or in the order we all saw them..?

4-6 1-3...

I loved Star Wars when they first came out, however I dont think that they stand up too well now. The myth of Star Wars is perpetuated by Adults who loved it as a kid and cant move on. There are better sci/fi movies that he will want to watch. Dont force him to watch any of them, watch them yourself!! The first 3 were/ are great, the last 3 are utter rubbish.

It would be best to have him watch them from Episode 1 Phantom Menace onwards so they follow through.

Start with the original trilogy.

The Phantom Menace is an appaling film. Imagine if they'd made it first in 1977, without the modern special effects it would have been even worse !.

Personally i'd watch the orginal 3 and pretend the recent trio didn't exist- they are dreadful!

Come on Revenge of the Sith isn't that bad, in fact it's brilliant, just because it strays away from the first triolgy doesn't make it appaling.

Actually I seem to be in the minority who thinks Phantom Menace was a decent film.

Star Wars has become very over-rated over time.The 1st 2 were great but the magic was fading come Return of the Jedi......with the Ewoks being a big nail in its coffin.

The 2nd trilogy was also diappointing and was a sensory overload with far too many CGI effects being used.

I remember how scary Vader was when I was a boy and Maul could have been the same but for some reason they killed off the only decent thing in the 2nd trilogy.

Glad you're concerned about your little one's education. I have heard of a similar fan starting the films as soon as baby arrived home. Mum went to bed and dad took over the care for a few hours. Perfect opportunity for bonding over a great series of films. The old ones do stand the test of time - good stories never fade away. Some of the effects may look dated; that does not detract from the story.
Enjoy and don't worry about the order. Which do you fancy watching first?

If you watch the new ones first you'll be left with an overiding sense of frustration. You'll be left, as I was, asking the question, how is it that the technology and weapons seem to get worse as the story advances. Even the digitally enhanced and remastered original three can't make up for the fact that evolution seems to work backwards in the far reaches of space.

sequels and prequels are always a dodgy game - particularly if the original was hugely successful and much loved - however your kids won't have that sense of the original being 'precious', so watch them in sequence.

re: sequels - don't get me started on the travesty that was the highlander sequels!! aliens!!?? aarrrgghh!!

I would skip the latest ones as they are utter rubbish and stick to the original three ! Awesome even now!

Having grandson's whose dad has got them all of the recent Star Wars films...They get very confused over the early Hans Solo/elderly Obi Wan versions when you discuss it with them, as they haven't really seen them and also when they see the old Obi Wan action figure in shops - so I would say start at the beginning i.e. the recent ones and take them through to the earlier ones at least the age differences and Luke Skywalker/Princess Leya storyline will make more sense
