Dont know but I know the worst, Green Mile, how can he die :-(
The Sixth Sense. What a twist in the tale.
I think Carlito's Way has a terrific ending as does Heat. Both Al Pacino films.
How about the Gift :-)
Hair - by a mile
I liked the twist at the end of The Village - never saw that coming !!

The 1968 Planet of the Apes.

Oh What a lovely War - after all the deaths in the first world war you cut to a wonderful sunny day in the Sussex downs after the war.

The five male family members who have all died in the war are lying in the sun when they gradually turn to white crosses.

Gradually the camera slowly pans back to reveal fields and fields of white crosses in neat rows, and you get a lump in your throat.

Casablanca still works

War of the worlds, not because the ending was any good but because the worst film I've ever seen in my life was over and I could take my grandkids home.
There's a couple of movies that spring to mind.I thought the ending to "Saw" was pretty clever.I didn't see it coming.
i think the ending of fight club was brilliant, didnt see that one coming!
Carrie & Presumed Innocent are my 2 fave film endings.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - anyone who has seen it will know what i mean.
The Usual Suspects.
fight club
As mentioned above, the ending of Sixth sence is brilliant.

I think a lot of the films mentioned here have twists in them. Which is fine. But with a lot of them, the whole conclusion was based on a twist, with a stupid film tagged on to it. If the twist is integral to the film then fair enough. But any film with ghosts, multiple personality syndrome, or the presumed-innocent-yet-guilty-all-along murder films are all poor, and have the imagination of a scooby doo episode. In facr, good films have good endings. Whereas a sh*t film cannot be great film with a good ending.

Good endings:

Heat, Carlito's Way, Silence of the Lambs, Leon, Usual suspects, Scarface.

Usual Suspects & Seven take the award for "not expecting that"

I agree with you Mr D Black, although heat's ending was spoiled by Michael Mann's weak point, the happy ending. Deniro should have killed pacino.
