Was it coincidence that his Porridge character was named Mackay, or was the character named for the actor?

Coincidence, I'm sure. Naming the character after the actor only occurred in shows like Terry and June where the leading man or woman was more important than the show itself. Fulton Mackay was very much a straight actor.
