Does anyone remember the old black and white TV series in which the main character was in the US army and was always very pleased to be doing 'jankers'? He had one of those large dogs which have lots and lots of creases. What was the name of the star?

Was this the one where everything the guy did was perfect? He could do anything really well and no matter what it was he did it amazingly well? It wasn't mighty Joe Young cos that was the gorilla but it was a similar name i think.
