I have not seen the film but I believe that it may be "Best of My Love" by The Emotions.

Excellent!! How did you know that if you haven't even seen the film? I saw the film for the 2nd time yesterday and by the time I had got home I had forgotten the name of the song! What am I like? Anyway, thanks for your impressive guess!
