David Tennant is definitely waaaaay better...I didn't find Chris Eccleston very likable at all and he looked like he had just stepped out of his council house into his tardis!! (no offense to council house duellers....just not a good look for a time lord!)
But I have to agree that its a shame the scripts aren't better!
david tennant was a Dr Who fan as a kid and it said in the paper today that he was pressuring the Beeb producers to change the character name to The Doctor, as noone in the series calls him Dr Who and he doesn't call himself Dr Who. very good point I think.
Changing the character name would be a mistake given the nostalgia attached to the show. I disagree with cole13uk though because I think that the supposed humour is badly written rather than badly executed. Davies is trying to bring the show down to his level and is incapable of subtlety or of living up to the genre. It is not actually supposed to be just a comedy yet that is Davies' background.
...my daughter who is 12 says Eccleston, (in fairness it's her 1st dr who, john pertwee was my first dr who and I will always have a soft spot for him , even though tom baker was the best ever)...I prefer Tennant to Eccleston, mainly because he was sexy as hell in Cassanova.....
They are both marvellous Doctors in very different ways. This is one of the most brilliant aspects of the concept. As the lead changes so does the character.I like the hardness of the Ninth Doctor,I felt that however he was when he regenerated his experiences and the war had moulded his character. And after that the Tenth has brought back an eccentricity and determination to have fun. Both of them brilliant and fantastic scripts.
