Last night's "New Tricks"
I know that the actress who played Dennis Waterman's daughter IS his real-life daughter, so that is not what my question is about.
In the storyline, DW's character had a DNA test done which proved that his real-life daughter's character wasn't his daughter (in the storyline!). However, later in the storyline he introduced said non-daughter as his eldest daughter - how come? why?

DW thought that the woman who claimed to be his daughter 'deserved' a dad as she had no one else. (Yes, i know it's a load of balls, but...) Therefore, it was the 'right' thing to do to introduce his 'new' daughter to the rest of his family. He obviously did not tell his non-daughter-who-thought-she-was-his-daughter that the test was negative.
I think we were supposed to think: 'Ah, innit nice.'
