There a new film made in 1999 with Anthony Way, Great Scacchi and Joan Plowright. The book by Philippa Pearce has been adapted three times by the BBC - the children's programme Merry Go Round produced a three-part adaptation in 1968; there was a three-part children's drama in 1974; and it was remade in 1988 spread over six parts.
