How similar are the Japanese and American versions of The Ring? I have seen the Japanese version, and what to know whether it is worth seeing the American version as well.

If you mean 'Lord of the Rings' then I was not aware that Tolkien had written Japanese and American versions as well as the original :-)
I have seen the American version of The Ring (incidently, Gef, nothing to do with Tolkien or Lord of the Rings), and I would advise you not to bother. It leaves loads of loose ends and doesn't leave you satisfied at the ending. Yes, there are a couple of "jumpy" bits but its nothing spectacular
I think the American version is very much like Marmite - you either like it or you don't. If you're intrigued by it, then go and find it as I think you'll just get mixed reviews from everyone. Me and my boyfriend both thought it was brilliant, but while we were there, someone walked out half way through the film as he obviously didn't think the same.
