Ross's embarrassing radio sidekick
11 Answers
Does anyone else cringe at the pathetic sycophantic giggling of Jonathan Ross's sidekick Andy on his Radio 2 show on Saturday mornings? Ross just has to breathe and this guy falls about in hysterics. His non-stop brown-nosing may make him vital for stroking Wossy's ego but surely he wouldn't get on-air any other way. Ye-uckkk.

He is the producer of the show and chooses all the music. I think he is great fun.

I agree robertson
Mind you I haven't listened to the prog for many moons, partly due to the said Andy sucking up to Woss, or so it appears....talk about a lap dog, Yes man, hanger on........
If Ethel is right (not doubting you Ethel), then it sure is a strange setup....maybe couldn't get anyone else to play 2nd fiddle or perhaps doin' it on the cheap! Who knows?

I know Mr Davies comes in for a huge amount of stick - and he has commented onit himself. He and JR are very close friends, and he maintains that his reactions are entirely genuine.
I appreciate that JR needs someone to 'bounce off', but someone like Ricky Gervais - another close friend' would be far better - except obviously the BBc can't afford him.
Yes, Andy Davies was a total spare part on the TV show, a step too far in finding a slot for a mte, but i think JR is a broadcasting genius,. and I'll put up with the giggling to listen to him.

Ross has his moments but I can't listen to much of that radio show, partly for the reasons at the top of this thread, partly because Ross is like a laser beam - unvarying in his delivery and approach.
The TV show is horrible. It's partly a general problem I have with UK shows aping the US Letterman-style format, which I find cringe-inducing. Ross relies too much on gay-related remarks of the "I think he might be a bit funny" type, which I find lame. He can really shine when interviewing potentially difficult subjects - with Thom Yorke and Madonna, both known to often be prickly in interviews, he was very good. With Nicole Kidman, who isn't a natural interviewee, he was embarrassingly appalling. She did well to keep it lighthearted but when she said "I just want this to end now" it was sincere and I agreed/sympathised with her.
Yes having Andy on the TV show was an immense mistake they did well to rectify quickly.
