There wasn't a US version of Alfie. The UK film was also shown there. Gazzawazza is not correct. Cher sang the title track in the film. Cilla recorded it separately and had a hit here with it.

You're both wrong and right at the same time. There is a Yank version but it's not finished yet (released this year) http://www.thezreview.co.uk/comingsoon/a/alfie.htm
.
I watched the film last night (coincidentally - it was on late so i watched it yet again!...) but don't remember listening to the song so not sure who sang it, but B Baccaracaracarach co-wrote it with Sonny so i assume Cher sang it....
Darth, don't be a naughty boy with your both wrong and right bit. Your original question asks if they 'did' a USA version and then who 'played' the lead role. The answer is that they have not 'done' a USA version so nobody has 'played' the lead role. This obviously comes from the other question about who sang the title song. You've seen the answers to that and I confirm that in the only version of the film made so far Cher sang the song.

Let's hope the new "Alfie" is better than Get Carter starring Sylvester Stallone - what pants!
Just wait 'til the new US version of The Italian Job comes out - using *shudder* BMW minis. Sacrilege!
