Star Trek Phasers one for the trekkies

How come phasers always fire in a straight line and they dont wave them about an get everybody ,if one stood in the middle of a football stadium and done a 360 how many people would it singe?

This isn't taken from anything "official" but I reckon that they don't wave the phasers around because the damage caused to the surroundins may prove dangerous or fatal (just thinking about all the techie stuff that is usually around them). As to the 360 bit: No idea. Sorry.

I think perhaps you're wrongly assuming it's one continuous beam of "phasonic energy" (whatever) but in reality it is a single pulse of energy/light. It's all a bit theatrical anyway, in reality the light pulse would travel at the speed of light (obviously) and you would certainly not see it (nor would there be any pregnant pause between firing and hitting someone). As for the 360 question it all depends on how fast you turn round AND the speed in which you can pull the trigger. Personally i use a light sabre which is always on, and there's no "stun" setting, just a "cut em up into little pieces" setting.

Ah Darth you old joker....of course you know that light sabre is a misnomer as it's actually an energised plasma beam (whatever the hell that is).

when i was 6 my friend had a real life light saber that his dad got for him on one of his travels into the far east. It was of course illegal and if he made to rings touch it would 'come alive' and be able to kill anyone. We could only view it in my back garden with shades on as the light it produced was so bright it would destroy our eyes. I think my minds eye made it come more alive then it was and it was prob a touch but it made me very scared of him and i had to do what he said eles he would make the rings touch and i would be sliced in half. and in A to your Q - it would be to hard for the SFX people to draw more than one green straight line.
