There a complete lack of really genuine scary films as they're all boringly gory.... can anyone suggest a REEEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYY creepy one for me to watch?

I thought the awful lady in the Japenese Ring was creepy and I kept thinking of her for ages!

No boring teen flicks please.... foreign films welcome.

Kwaidan. it's a Japanese horror film, 4 stories, 1964, a classic that a good library should have. Terrifying. Also Onibaba, also Japanese, also terrifying. The Japanese really are the masters of horror. On a more mass-audience note, the Shining always does it for me.
Pretty much any Vincent Price used to scare the bejesus out of me as a child. If I watch Theatre of Blood I still can't sleep for weeks.
ooo samara i the ring is scary she really freeked me out :s ... i love gothika... that is really scary but so is the shining...i think what makes that film so good is the music !!
The recent The Hills Have Eyes was quite good. :o)
I always thought that "Creep" was an OK film but lots of people didn't agree with me....The girlie I was with at the time was breaking my ribs she was squeezing me so tight !

The Shining is excellent the first few times, but after watching it as many as I have, on DVD, you can pretty much speak the lines... my own fault for spoiling, but still an excellent film.
horro films really used to scare the pants of me, but i haven't seen a really good one for ages, although saying that i screamed my head off watching The descent'

the one's that got me when i was a kid
alien
jaws
salems lot
the shining
The original 'The Haunting' - the black & white one.

Creepy.
ive refused to watch that film 'Creep'.... simply because im always on the tube, and i know thats where its based!
the grudge is really scarey and the ring.
Have you seen Stigmata? I found this really scary but then again I find everything really scary - apart from Jeepers Creepers!
Jaws
I'm quite a big fan of horror films most of the ones i've seen i thought were more gorey than scary. I agree that "Ring" was freaky. The Shining was pretty freakish. I seem to find it difficult to find generally scary films that really make me jump although maybe i'm just hard to please:-)
Try 'Dead Of Night' - B/W, no gore, no jumps, just gently ratcheting tension up to the killer last bit .....
"The Shining" - already mentioned a couple of times - is a classic. Another, somewhat overlooked, one I like is "The Innocents" from 1961. After you get past the rather "jolly hockey sticks" first 15-or-so minutes, it really does evoke a genuinely creepy atmosphere.

Screamintree you're right, the Innocents is fantastic and not a drop of blood in it. The Others is a pale imitation. The book is a really hard read, though. (The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.) I've seen a play of it and that was brilliant too. Also, the book of the Shining is as atmospheric as the films (both versions).
The Grudge is quite good, I found Creep very boring and a disappointment. The Hole was quite good, more of a chiller though than a horror. Dog Soldiers is also pretty good if you like Wearwolf movies, it is an English made low budget movie that was a surprise hit.
A lot of the horror movies I have seen in the last few years have not been scary at all. I found the Descent not to my taste, although the plot was quite good.
One of the scariest for me was The Blair Witch Project, simply because you had to use your imagination and mine is pretty active! I know that plenty will disagree with me though!
Another good movie although a few years old now and you may not find it in the shops, is Jacobs Ladder. I found that pretty scary and the surprise ending is good. Anyone else seen it and agree with me?
Susperia is great very creep about a girl who joins a european ballet school that turnes to be run by witches of sorts.

Dream Demon is a good English effort, a classic scene where a bride to be is dreaming and punches her husbands head off his shoulders..........

I like scary chuff too, fave from that lot would be Jason takes Manhattan, awsome.
