Emmerdale Pint Pulling

why in the woolpack when they are pulling a pint do they have to pull the lever about 120 times per pint? and when they are talking to someone they seem to do it even more!

It's just the type of pump, I used to work in a bar and we had 2 pumps that you had to pump 5-6 times to get a pint and the rest you just flicked the handle down and it poured out
