thank you such a great film.
coo, that's a blast from the past. Haven't seen that since school.
Someone definitely died.
awesome movie!

just did a quick google search and Ralph's character was called Jonny Cade - see quote below

"Johnny Cade was a hero. After saving Ponyboy from drowning in a fountain by killing the Soc with a knife, Ponyboy and he run away, for fear of getting arrested.

They eventually they end up staying in an abandoned Church, where Ponyboy, the film's intellectual, reads Johnny "Gone with the Wind". The church later catches on fire, and Johnny redeems himself for the murder of the Soc by saving several children that had accidentally started the fire. Unfortunately for Johnny though, a piece of roof falls on him and seriously injures him.

Johnny stays in the hospital for a while before he dies, his last words to Ponyboy being "Stay gold" - a reference to an earlier line in the film where Ponyboy says "nothing gold can stay" [I think]. He means by these words that Ponyboy should not go to the rumble or ever fight in a gang again; he should stay golden and innocent."

Ward minter showing his softer side!

The cast list is a tour de force of brat packers with virtually every male lead of the 1980's involved.

The book is actually aimed at kids but the film was a bit of a gem.
Best watched in a double bill of the other S E Hinton adaptation Rumble Fish.

I had posters for both films on my wall as a teenager.
Would i be right in thinking that Stevie wonder sang the song "stay gold. "
my all time fave song " stay gold by stevie wonder !!!
Nothing Gold Can stay

Natures first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leafs a flower
But only so an hour
So leaf subsides to day
Nothing gold can stay

God help me!! I learnt that along with the whole of the script of The Outsiders in my youf. I can cry on cue where Johnny and Pony have their chats, oh no snivelling now!

I reviewed the book in school when everyone else was reviewing some Shakespear rubbish as I refused and said that this was a modern day tragedy! I really had no life, I still have this on video and can't find it on any other format.

Off I wander down memory lane... thank you!!!
