Oh was it? sorry, not seen it in years and we only had black and white telly then. Just read the link I gave - funny how it was only made because Walt Disney wasn't allowed to take the money he'd earned in the UK out of it.
Robert Newton was the actor who invested the character with the "Aaah, Jim lad ...." phrase which characterised pirates in popular conciousness from then on - until Johnny Depp arrived of course.
