But I can't tell you any more about it than a factual programme was on a few weeks later, about the amount of children shipped off to Australia in those times. I watched the factual programme as I'd seen the item you mention.
They didn't know where they were going and often ended up as cheap labour or abused or both as no one seemed to give a damn.

Vicster,
Was it called "The Leaving Of Liverpool" or something...? I remember watching something along those lines in the early '90's, and I also remember it having the keyboard player from Spinal Tap in it! If it was that; well, I recall thinking it was brilliant.
Give the Internet Movie Database a go!

It wasn't Carrie's War, that I do know, because in that they were evacuated to Wales. I know that story very well.
I think I remember the film Vicster means, but again, I can't remember what it was called, unless it was indeed 'The Leaving of Liverpool.
I remember the girl was placed in a British orphanage by her mother, who was going to come back for her. But she was told her mother had died and then they all got shipped off to Australia to become skivvies in the outback. There was one scene where they whipped out the kids' tonsils before they went.
The boys were sent to some sort of catholic-run home, and were abused by one of the priests, and then one of the boys drowned in a quarry whilst trying to run away.
Are we thinking the same thing here?

i think i remember this, i think it showed them having there tonsils removed quite brutally so they wouldnt get sore throats in the climate, the girl at some point also, shakes her headlice onto one of the nuns? pillows when theres some kind of ceromony on, i also remember when they first got on the ship they were hanging over the side and one of the boys or maybe a man with them explained what plimsole lines were used for on ships, at the end i think the girl gets home and finds her mother who had given the girl away to an orphanage but had never known she'd be taken to australia
