Does anyone know why the DVD version of "A Royal Flush" has been cut? I watched it the other night and noticed loads of stuff missing from the VHS version.

Don't know what is missing from your DVD, but I know they had problems with references such as '**** Shop' and the like. I believe that certain episodes are not repeated for that very reason.
Because the astrixes lose the meaning, I'll try again

Surely though that ruling shouldn't apply to a DVD? If so, that truly blows!
Although not strictly to do with the post, I've noticed quite a few times where words have been bleeped from programmes made about 30 years ago. The people for whom these words have been deleted must feel patronised, I know I would. Do we think they're so sensitive that we all have to pussy-foot around for fear of upsetting any of them? Of course they're not; just like everyone else and it's about time we treated each other with respect.

That P**i Shop reference is on an early episode which still is on DVD and not been cut, The episode I originally asked about has no offence references in it, it simply has been trimmed down by about 15 mins !! Why ??
I can't believe how they have butcherd this classic program for dvd. In the episode you mention, the whole scene where Del Boy whistles through the opera has been cut, so too has some of the dinner scene where Albert talks about one of his relatives being safety officer on the Titanic. Thene theres the laughter track that has been added that was not in the original. I could go on about cuts that have been made to other episodes like Jolly Boys Outing, where in the night club Trigger talks about how he has found a motel but they don't know he dosen't have a car.

Shame on the BBC!!!

The Jolly Boys Outing was cut simply for copyright reasons due to the song the female singer is singing in the nightclub.
Just googled it and apparently the production of that episode was disaterous. Jason Lyndhurst and O' Sullivan were all ill which prevented it from being filmed in front of a live audience.

Without the audience, to quote the OFAH Story "John Sullivan was not happy with A Royal Flush, feeling that it seemed to show Del in a negative light. Where as Del was always seen to be a loveable rogue, in this there were some scenes where he came over as boorish and offensive. To Suliivan and every OFAH fan, it just wasn't the Del Boy Trotter they came to know and love."

Apparently it was still being edited (for transmission) a couple of hours before it was broadcast on christmas day.

Maybe Sullivan took out all the stuff he didn't like
its obviously the pc brigade getting their way again. the other day on sky ,they repeated the comedy young ones which i love. in one scene it shows the gang running down the street past a telephone box. on the telephone box was loads of graffiti. they blanked out one word which would be visible for a nano second. the word was i think the n word. (can't type it in full cuz i will be branded a rascist.).absolutely ridiculous.... end of rant
I'm curious now . Which episode was A Royal Flush? What was the storyline?

It's the one where rodney meets a posh girl on the market and she turns out to be nobility, and also where they go to the opera and Del and his girlfriend June turn up and annoy everyone.
Thanks smashmartian - I remember it now.
