Can anyone tell me where i can find the type of music played at Notting Hill carnival. It just makes my daughter and I want to dance when we hear it but we don't know what it is called or where to find it. I would be grateful if anyone can help me.
I can't help with where to find it, but the music is generally calypso or as steel pans are used it can also be called pan music - I know what you mean about it making you want to dance, I am the same.
Generally at carnival they play Soca Music - the faster, dancier beats.
Sometimes they play Dancehall which is mainly Jamiacan but harder music. I think you want the Soca stuff.
Soca Gold collections usually have the most recent carnival songs on them. But they dont always contain the tracks played at carnival. A lot of music played at carnival is Trinidadian beats.
If you are unsure listen to Choice Fm {i think it is sundays] can check website www.choicefm.com
They play soca tracks - so specifically what songs you want you may hear there. There are a lot of artists and songs and not all are commercial so to be on the safe side I would listen on the radio and then do searches by the artist.
Thanks to all who replied. Tigerlil, I have gone onto HMV website and heard a selection of soca music and its exactly what i was looking for. Thank you x
