I did not post this comment on the pov site because of restrictions etc but why cant people enjoy a bit of of saturday night light entertainment especially as it is only the first episode of what looks like a very enjoyable version of the traditional robin hood story but with a few language and costume up dates Give it a chance.
i thought it was OK, but some of the camera shots were a bit wierd?? plus.............. it was a bit american all action hero wasnt it, with him throwing the sword and it knocking out BOTH of the gaurds??
I spotted several references to films, LOTR with them hiding under the tree root and the soldier was like one of the Nine that was following the hobbits. And then when they reached Loksley and it showed Robin's hand brushing the wild flowers was just like in Gladiator's dream.
it was good, and will hopefully get better, i thought Marian was a little on the masculine side though.
Sometimes I'm willing to give things a chance when they start iffy but I don't feel like extending that courtesy to this, it was so dire. At times I was squirming it was so bad. I'm all for pantomine villains but Keith Allen was rubbish. He must be the luckiest man in acting, how the hell does someone with such meagre talent keep getting employed? Big friends with the right people down at the Groucho?
The casting was completely one-dimensional - all the young male characters looked the same. The comic relief character was just plain embarrassing. The dialogue was lame. The acting was stilted, but there's not much they could do with such poor material. Robin had zero charisma. The 'whooshing' captions were just plain annoying and reminded me of the irritating whooshing scene changes in Malcolm in the Middle and Scrubs.
Nothing wrong with Marian being a bit chunky - as well she might be if accustomed to manual work. She was kind of cute but not enough to keep me watching. I'll probably revisit it midway through to see if it's improved but I'm not holding my breath.
Reading backdrifters thesis on part one of robin hood, i think he would be well advised to watch something else backcasting at the same time X factor or even god forbid Ant and Dec. Of course there is always the option of the Off switch
