Hi, we have Sky Digital in our living room and terrestrial in our kitchen and when both TVs have the same channel on I have noticed that there is a time delay of about 3 seconds on the Sky (ie, you see it on Terrestrial first and a few seconds later you see it on the Sky). Why is this?

A digital signal requires quite a bit of processing, which takes a finite amount of time.

The audio and video components of a program are compressed at the source and time-multiplexed with other programs as well as with system information needed to recreate the original program. The digital multiplex is modulated and transmitted to the satellite, which broadcasts the signal to an antenna on the subscriber's home that is connected to a receiver, or set-top box, which usually sits near the television. The set-top box demodulates the signal to recover the multiplexed digital streams, extracts the program of interest, and decodes the compressed audio and video for presentation.
i have sky hd sky digital and terrestial in one large open living area the time delays can vary ie hd is longer than digital than terestial
Particularly annoying when watching Football!
yeah i've been in a pub where they have had the picture via digital satellite and the sound via analogue (i.e. about 2 seconds earlier) and it's totally unwatchable...does your head in!
It's ok it it's a digital channel you're watching but if channel 4 is shown on the terrestial and channel 4 is going through the sky box - the terrestial is always quicker. It must be like that for tv presenters hearing a vpoice in their ear talking while their reading out. I have had the sAME THING ON THE PHONE WHERETHERE IS A UIME DELAY AND i CAN HEar the last phrase I've said repeated 30 second after me - it could literally drivwe you mad

My dad had something withthe old real to reL WHERE IF YOU SPOKE YOU HEARD YOUR LAST SENTENCE REPETED ABOUT 40 SECONDS LATER AND IT FELT REALLY WEIRD BUT A NEIGHBOUR CAME IN AND TRIED IT AND SOUNDED AS THOUGH WE WAS PARALETIC OR TOTALL STONED
