whats the best tv comedy of all time I know its a matter of opion, but i would like to hear your favourite, is it my favourite fawlty towers, red dwarf which i think is bobbins or is it only fools and horses, lets see which comes top.
Dangermouse, it's just gotta be Dangermouse. Bordering between the Goodies and Monty Python. The humour is So absurd. I know it's only a kids cartoon but if you ever get hold of a DVD you gotta re-watch them. Sometimes borders on the surreal it's almost genius. I think this was secretly aimed at adults although the humour is enjoyed by kids alike some references will go over their heads, such is the trend at the moment with Disney Feature Cartoons. Check em out. Cruuuuuuuuuumbs Cheif!!!
Father Ted is the best comedy of the last 20 odd years. " Cigarettes & Alcohol & Rollerblading", whereTed, Dougal and Jack had to give something up for lent, is the funniest single episode I have ever seen on TV - the bit where they start hallucinating is pure genius! I also love Fawlty Towers, One Foot in the Grave and Seinfeld, but Father Ted is the pinnacle of comedy IMHO.
One of my favourites is 'The Fall And Rise of Reginald Perrin'. Of the 3 series made in the 70s, I reckon no other show had produced more catch phrases (except perhaps Harry Enfield and the Fast Show....but they don't count)
No one has mentioned my best one yet, has to be Monty Python, I spent years repeating every sketch at school and every week we'd learn the new ones. Nothing has ever been so original and anarchic.
Apart from many of the ones already mentioned, Phoenix Nights is the funniest thing I've seen for many years. If you haven't watched it I reckon you are missing out. And it looks like it will be limited to 2 short runs as well. gilf - I remember, and liked, Chance in a Million - Simon Callow (I think that was his name) also in 4 Weddings, and Brenda Blethyn. A bit like One Foot In The Grave in some ways.
Best: Fawlty Towers, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Blackadder. Worst: The Office, League of Gentlemen. When The Office and L of G started, I watched the first two or three episodes of both of them, and couldn't see anything even remotely funny at all. I never understand why The Office is so highly rated by so many people.
