Did anyone notice how she completely hated Parky after he mentioned her state of mind after her divorce? He was constantly getting at her about how she seemed changed and she couldnt beleive it. I thought she was going to start crying. And then when the lights went down at the end of the show, you could see Parky trying to talk to her while she was looking the other way - refusing to speak to him.

Cringe Reality TV at it's best / worst!

That's what she gets for acting like a total arse
I thought she was one of the worst interviewees I have ever seen. Hollywood royalty eh? Nae personality. Just shows that what you see on screen is nothing like what you actually get!
Add Renee Zellwegger (whatever) to that list brawbird!
I've never watched such an ill-mannered display on Parky before. Just as well he's a gentleman. I would have slapped her!
i was looking forward to the meg ryan interview. i have never been as embarresed watching a programme before. for someone who has been in the entertainment business for so long she lacked any form of proffesionalism. she was rude and argumentative throughout and despite parky saying he would love to have her back, when shes changed again, if i was him i would not allow her in the building.

Wow - a lot of people noticed then! But I kinda thought it was Parky who was out of order telling her he'd like her back when she's changed. I wouldn't have liked that said to me!
I really felt for Parky - did a top job of trying to interview someone who was a total prat. What is the point of going on a chat show, supposedly to promote a film, and behaving like that. Full marks to Parky for effort.
gutted I missed it
Hmmmm - I didn't think Parky handled it too well; his questions where pretty critical and put her on the defensive. Its not surprising she clammed up towards the end. As an experienced interviewer I sure he could of done more to rescue the situation

I must've been watching a different show, then. At first I couldn't believe what I was seeing. A man who is rated one of the best interviewers was diabolical, rude, cold, unintelligent, in one word imbarassing. Miss Ryan was sophisticated, in the good sense of the word, calm and as open as she could be in such bad circumstances. I would've just walked off. He never gave her a chance. He wasn't prepared to listen and accept what she was saying. He wanted her to be what he had in his mind, full stop. He was putting words in her mouth, questioning the good faith of her answers, trying to undermine her confidence, basically trying to break her apart. Honestly, what a stupid thing to do, I can't possibly think of any reason to behave like that. I can only think that unfortunately Mr. Parky could not understand her intelligent , honest and deep comments. As a simple man ( should I say simpleminded?) he was expecting simple answers. Too bad. Sometimes even moviestars have a brain. She has been more than open. She was revealing, and she seemed truly touched, her intimate feelings for the role and the director. She was trying to tell us of what she learned and of what she believes in. Can we honestly blame her for being defensive when confronted with a ready made and superficial reading of the consequences of her divorce and private events on her? Shouldn't we accept that she is the only one that can tell us how she feels about that and what she made of it, if she feels like it? That much for our English respect for privacy and politeness.

Blue95 - I think we were watching the same show! I didn't say anything because I thought I had imagined it all. But it's true... Parky was completely out of order. I wouldn't be surpised if she doesn't do anymore interviews in Britain after that.
I have read many references over the past few years to Meg Ryan being a very difficult person to interview. One of the presenters from This Morning (can't remember which one) said that she was very rude and had an attitude problem to answering even the most simple questions. She was also mentioned in a recent survey, quoted in heat magazine in their Hollywood gossip column, of the worst celebrity interviewees (others mentioned included Jennifer Lopez). And again, I read a quote from a film producer who criticised her for being rude to his family for no reason. I do think that Parkinson was too intrusive in some of his questions, but even at the beginning of the interview before he'd even started questioning her about anything, she seemed to have a major attitude problem towards him and the other guests, like she was looking down on them and just didn't want to be there. So I would say there is blame on both sides for the interview turning out badly, but it was no surprise to me at all that Meg Ryan was being rude because she does have a reputation for doing that.
I don't know much about Meg Ryan, so I accept that she may be difficult to interview. However on the Parky show, I did think that he was to blame. His questioning was aggressive and he didn't seem to accept that there could be different views about things than his own - when he asked her about the theme of the film, he seemed overly annoyed that it is a portrayal of the fallacy of romantic love. Obviously this is not a point of view he adheres to himself, but that was not a reason to attack her in the way he did - surely the skill of a good interviewer is to make the interviewee comfortable to express their views and telling them that they are wrong is not going to encourage that. Of course he had a good trawl through the erotic nature of the film - has anyone noticed that Parky always likes to raise the issue of sex when interviewing film stars...I remember an interiew with Ralph Fiennes a year or two ago where he asked him what it was like to bare his bum in the English Patient. Ralph didn't look too impressed. I think Michael Parkinson is highly overrated.
