Borat - a set up?

Have you seen it? I just can't believe that he has set all these people up, otherwise he would have been put behind bars. If there were a secret camera, it wouldn't have kept changing from shot to shot, I just smell a rat. Was it a set up, or was the whole thing staged?

After things like this are filmed,people have to give their consent for their faces to be shown.
Many of the scenes are staged for sure.

it is not secret cameras that are the setup, it is that he fools them by pretending he is genuinely borat and filming a documentary for kazakstan - think of the full title of the film.

its a bit like louis theroux - he finds the most horiible people and merely dangles the bait and watches them hang themeselves all on their own.

the playing dumb and weak act is actually cleverly staged to give these people a sense of superiority and smugness, which makes their ego inflate and their real side come out.
they love the opportunity to believe they are 'teaching' someone something.

they think both louis and borat are fools and so let their guard down...but they are just falling into the trap

But at the end with Pamela Anderson, how come he wasn't arrested - or was he ?? He seemed to get away with an awful lot !

he hasn't got away with anything, america and kazakstan are up in arms, he is being sued left right and centre!!

Both he and Louis Theroux are geniuses in the way joko perfectly put it.
Don't forget this film took Sacha Cohen a year or two to make so he must have ditched plenty footage that just did not work. Also I don't think he ever claimed it all to be true.
Funniest movie ever made imho.
