They could afford to pay people to write scripts, hire actors to star in programs, pay directors to make programs.
Now we have hundreds of TV channels and most have little money, so they look for the cheapest way to make TV programs.
This is why we have had so many "reality" TV programs in the last few years.
Find an interesting workplace (Airport, Hospital etc), follow people around with a camera, try to find some interesting
characters, and if you film for long enough you should be able to edit it down to six 30 minute programs.
No scriptwriters, no highly paid actors, no directors, just a cameraman walking around filming members of the public.
Big Brother, Castaway, Survivor are all extensions of this.
Put a few members of the public in an isolated place (house, island etc), give them silly things to do, wait for a few of them to start having sex, and bingo, you have a series.
Thanks to the BBC who still manage to put on SOME quality TV.

All these new so-called extra programmes on digi. Absolute loads of rubbish. Every other programme Quiz Night, Quiz Call, re-runs etc. T.V. Companies have no money because of silly reality shows whether celebs or not. None of the celebs do the jungle or BB or anything else for free, yet the publics voting money goes to a charity of their choice. I wouldn't mond 50K to do a stint in the jungle and I'm disabled.
