Life on mars - Gene Hunt expression (one of the safer ones!)

I have heard this a couple of times, and I am trying to work it out but no luck so far. He said it in the last episode, something like "Don't come over all Dorothy on me" and I really don't know what he means or who Dorothy - if there is one - is. Can anyone help?

is it not a gay reference?
gay people are often referred to as "a friend of dorothy" to do with judy garland and the wizard of oz? so maybe he means that?

I would imagine he meant "girly" as per Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, but that is conjecture.

In the context of the action and the scene, it would fit.

I didn't realise this expression was so old! I did wonder if it should have been used on 'Life On Mars' but obviously it has been around for far longer than I thought ;o)

I originally thought it was an 80's term.

It can't be that craigiep because Gene said it when Sam got a bit 'touchy feely'...he put his hand on Gene's back when Gene was talking about his junkie brother.
