Help needed!! 60/70's film???

I'm trying to find out the proper name of a film that i'd like to give as a birthday gift. We think it mite be called Charlie but ain't sure. All we know is that its about a disabled man who is given some sort of injections to help him overcome his disablility, falls in love with doc etc etc and in the end reverts back to his original self - not sure if he dies!! Pathetic i know but that's all we have!! If anyone knows it we'd love to hear from them!!!

Hmm, it sounds very much like Awakenings (1990) where Robert de Niro is a catatonic patient and Robin Williams administers a new drug to a group of patients, including de Niro. He and the others slowly regain conciousness, as we know it, and he falls for one of the nurses.

Could it be Flowers For Algernon? The book is by Daniel Keyes and the film starred Matthew Modine as Charlie.

I agree with marwel and La Diva � however, although I found the book (actually it's either a very short book or a longish short story) absolutely brilliant, I thought the film was rather disappointing.

It would have made a brilliant episode of The Twilight Zone if Rod Serling had ever got around to doing it!
