I heard the same thing. They did the same with Alf Garnett's "In sickness and in health". It did not bear any semblence to the original concept. This happens often and it makes you ask the question "WHY"? Seems totally pointless when the ethos of the program is omitted. Fawlty Towers was dubbed into differnt languages too, with Manuel changing from a Spanish waiter to an Italian to please the Spanish audiance!

A US version of Father Ted has been in the pipeline for ages, but I would take that casting with a fecking great pinch of salt.

I've no doubt that they'll completely cock it up, like they did with many others, especially Men behaving badly, where they apparently removed the smoking, drinking and laddish behaviour. Doh!
