Best horror film?

Off work today and tommorrow, just watched Nightmare on Elm Street part 2 but dont think it's that great. The Fog and Jaws are good films. But would be interested to see what you all think? TIA

I must say I dont find any horror films scary, but the ones that have made me jump are The Descent and The Excorcist

Havent seen The Decent, what happens in that? The Exorsist is good, if a little disturbing

The Descent is scary - and claustrophobic.

I would always say that the Hellraiser movies (mainly 1-3) are the best for me...but I watched a French horror movie not so long ago which scared me witless and had an 'Oh my God' ending.

For the life of me I can't think of the title...but I am sure someone out there knows which one I am on about!

I have to say I thought the descent was vastly over rated.

For me it remains The Ring in both American and Japanese.

Actually. Some of the original Japanese horrors that are remade (like The Grudge) really do scare the bejesus out of me. They're very creepy.

The ring very scary. Especially the scene where she comes out of the TV. Watched Fragile recently and thought that was pretty scary, plus it was filmed where I live so was good. How about The Innocence with Debra Kerr?

Oh yeah, whickerman definately Stir of echoes, the bit that scared me in that was when he was being hypnotised and was in that big old cinema and the girl was sat at the front

The original Ring was very good.

Switchblade Romance was pretty good.

I rather liked the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I seem to remember finding the first half of the original really dull.

Senn too many horror films to get scared by them now but my favorite has to be 28 Days Later!

Good thread!!

I remember as a child, (11yrs old ish) sneakily turning my old black and white portable tv on on a Friday night.

There were lots of old horror films on and remember in particular Hammer House of Horror films.

Two of them I remember vividly. One featured a child's birthday party and as the kids and parents sat around a table ladened with party food, pipes above burst splattering all below with blood.

The other featured a witch called lucinda jessop???

Bizarre how the memory stores random useless info??

I imagine that they are really naff and if they were on TV today they would be on after coronation street!!! lol

those hammer house dramas freaked me as a kid. The one that stands out for me was teh family that lived in the house and they woke up and all their doors and windows were walled up, turned out they were dolls and the dolls house was in a closet...

Old dracula movies really creeped me out too, but they don't bother kids these days (Buffy has a lot to answer for).

Remember Sapphire & Steel, esp the world war 1 ghosts in the train station? Scary as hell

I found The Ring very scary and like you I thought the part when she comes out of the television was really disturbing.
Most of American Werewolf in London was okay and pretty funny but I though the bit in the underground where that man is alone and trying to escape the wolf and you know it's a futile attempt is horrible.

Happyjo,i remember that one about the party and the blood.It turned out to be the parents,they did it for the money.Think they wrote a book.They even killed their childs cat.I`ll always remember it cos i had one the same,long-haired black-i was upset for ages.
