OK I'm comming clean here, I watched it because I heard that Cowel Gets an ear full, anyway I must admit I found it surprisingly entertaining, I agreed with the panel, that bird was totally deluded. Anyway what I wanted to know was, why are so many people so willing to submit to ritual humiliation before Cowel and co. I'd rather starve to death!

some of the crazier ones get to appear on GMTV so I guess its all about exposure?!
What I can't believe is that their families haven't already told them that they sound like two cats being swung around in a sack.

I'm sure if my child said to me that they wanted to audition and they sounded as bad I'd have to tell them the truth rather than risk them being humiliated like that.
They get their 5 mins of fame. A bird I used to work with's mate was on Pop Idol a few years ago. She was voted one of the worst ever. She is very attention seeking and extrovert.
it is akin to the aristocrats visiting Bedlam and laughing at the inmates, for the life of me i cannot understand why I enjoy watching it so much, i don;t watch much TV and very little Reality TV but i do love the X factor.
I've judiciously avoided the X Factor until this series, but took my friend's advice to at least watch some of the early shows for the sheer comedy value, and I have to say she was right.

I'll no doubt lose interest when it starts getting serious and there's nothing left but Timberlake/Carey/Westlife tribute acts, but some of the no-hopers are hilarious. I could understand if they were doing it for a laugh or a bet, but they seem so genuinely shocked to be told what everyone already knows. :-)
There is a recognised physchological condition (apparently) in which the sufferer is completely oblivious to their appalling vocal noises.

They have a complete inability to actually hear the noises they are making............and perceive them to correspond to the noises they think/hope they are making !!

I first read about when the Mighty Brendan auditioned for the show (or was that Pop Idol ?!) and have no idea what it is called..........

Florence Foster Jenkins is probably the most famous 'sufferer' :o)
I'd like to hear the conversation when the deluded ones get home.
