It's being credited with additions to language etc. and it's simply getting carried away with its own hype. Channel 4 should get overt itself, and so should anyone weeping and wailing about how 'Friday nights will never be the same!' Reality check time!
Actually, it wasn't because of the cricket, it was because C4 made the show and then discovered that there were some rights issues that they hadn't taken into account. From their forum:
We're very sorry we weren't able to show the Friends documentary, and that it was pulled at such short notice. We did trail the schedule change during the early evening, but we appreciate that a lot of people won't have caught the announcements and will have been disappointed.
We weren't able to show the programme because of unforeseen rights issues. Sorry not to be more specific, but in these sort of situations we're generally not able to divulge specifics.
There's an outside chance that we may be able to go ahead and show How Friends Changed The World as planned on Bank Holiday Monday (31.05.04), but this very much depends upon negotiations with Warner Bros later this week, and to be honest the chance is a pretty slim one. As soon as I hear a definite yes or no I'll post the result.
