what's the name of this French film?

I saw it some years ago, and want too see it again. But what the heck is it's title??... It's in B/W and it's about a guy who robs a jewelry store. he's caught and while he's in jail his wife/girlfriend sleeps with someone else, and when he returns she says it was the only way to keep sane. ( sorry that's not much to go on, but maybe you know the title...Thanks)
