Towards the end of " Where Eagles Dare " Clint Eastwood fires two machine pistols simultaneously from waist height. Could this actually be done or is it total movie make believe?

The WWII machine guns had rudimentary recoil absorbtion, after all, that's what powered the mechanism. However, what you see on the screen is pure hokum. Doing that sort of thing would have flung his arms back and the guns would have fired all over the place as they waved around. He would have ended up on his back!
