Western character named 'Trampus'
10 Answers
My partner and I thought that an actor in a film had played Trampus [can't recall surname] in a television cowboy series in the 50/60s. Despite much thought and some googling I can't find an answer as to which series. Any ideas please?

The Virginian started in about 1965/6 and Doug was one of the stars from the start, along with James Drury (The Virginian) and Steve Hill (Steve), the show ran for a number of years and then became The Men From Shiloh in the early 70s. That's just a small portion of what I can recall, I can probably write another 10000 words on it and it's episodes/stars/guest stars/

Pedantically, The Virginian was one of the original western novels, written in 1902 by Owen Wister. Wister, a well-to-do Eastener came to Wyoming for his health and while living at a working ranch near Glenrock, Wyoming, wrote the novel.. The novel's setting was an 1870-1880's working ranch near Medicine Bow, Wyoming, an actual town. In the novel, as opposed to the television program, the hero, The Virginian and Trampas were deadly enemies. In the end the Virginian killed Trampas in another historical setting in Buffalo, Wyoming.
Wister was obviously familiar with cattle ranching and cowboys from the content of his novel. He coined the phrase "When you call me that, smile"... often used in early western movies...
