Isn't it a McGuffin?
the name McGuffin was invented by Alfred Hitchcock for some plot device (secret nuclear plans etc) that gets the plot going but is otherwise meaningless

Thanks guy's, was trying to show off the other night when we were watching Pulp Fiction and totally forgot the name of the dam thing. Not sure on the snopes definition of what is inside the case though lol

I always thought it was Elvis Presley's Gold lame suit as worn by Val Kilmer (playing Elvis) in "True Romance", a Tarantino screenplay.
