Sorry warmdust, urban myth correction time - there was no 'Seaman Stains', the cabin boy was Jim, and the mate was Master Mate 'Master Bates'. These mythical names have circulated for years, and used to occur occasionally in the pages of national newspapers until John Ryan, the creator of Captain Pugwash sued (and won!) several times for libel, whereupon the nonsense stopped. Oh, and there is no dog called 'Shag' either, and Bob Holness didn't play sax on 'Baker Street'!
