I'll probably get slated for this but I actually enjoyed watching this weeks programme. It has given me an insight into processed foods and that if additives and preservatives were not safe they would not be put into food under EU law.
After Jamie's school dinners and Hugh's broiler chickens, do you think this could be the new food revolution endorsed by a cook/chef? Will tins of processed meat be flying off the shelves in your local supermarket?

I've always avoided processed foods and cooked healthy meals, and the result of all my hard work is that when I'm out and Mr O is in charge of cooking, the kids always demand Fray Bentos tinned pies, tinned mushy peas and microwave chips. Grrr!

I noticed that in Iceland yesterday the Aunt Bessies stuff . eg the mash and roast spuds had a "Delia Cheat " label on them.
She is being slated in the press and by some of her fellow chefs .That obnoxious AWT for one .I like Delia, and her book that she published way back in the 1970's has stood me in good stead over the years .
I think she's just trying to help people who cannot cook and let's be fair there are some who can't boil an egg .Look how she was slated over that one !
I know you can't beat fresh stuff cooked from scratch but people live such busy lives these days so why not "cheat "now and again .
Of course food snobs will always have a different opinion .:))

I liked that crab cakes recipe and on the back of that ordered the book .I mean you would have to go and get fresh crab and mess around with it otherwise .So why not use tinned crab meat ?
I think the tinned stuff she uses is obviously good quality .It's annoying though that the bloomin' BBC won't allow us to see what brands she is using !

Well to be fair, I cheat ...I used to cook for a living in a pub where everything was made from scratch but these days in my old age I am anything for quickness !
I cannot be bothered faffing around for two people .So the quicker the better !
I enjoy cooking but that mundane routine "what can we have for dinner tonight " sometimes drives me to distraction . So any new things I can try out are always welcome .

I used to shop in Waitrose when we lived in London .They have nice stuff I must admit .But that was in the days when we were working with a double income ..these days it's Somerfields and the local market !
I think you can still eat well whatever your income and if St Delia can guide us on the way fair play to her !
Mind you she's not short of a couple of bob is she ?
I have a collection of blue and white china but I was gobsmacked at the amount she has on that dresser and all those lovely copper pans ...and that lovely pantry .....oooh I am an envious moo :))

When you think about it she left school with no qualifications etc .and has made her way in the world .I like this series because it shows her as she is .I particularly liked the bit with Sister Wendy and with her Mum .Being not far from Norwich we get to see her quite a bit on the local news because she's an avid Canaries supporter in spite of her gaffe at that well publicised match !
She seems to a well meaning person in spite of her fame and fortune .I don't think she's in it for the "celebrity "status that some of these chefs enjoy either .I think she just genuinely wants people to be able cook something ..anything ...whichever way they go about it ..
