Why does he talk in an Irish accent? He could certainly win a Terry Wogan soundalike contest!

Many times I have thought Ken was actaully Terry so I totally agree Carol Anne!!!!
thought his accent was Scottish-if i'm thinking about the same person
Oh dear, I didn't know Ken Bruce was Scottish - I thought he was Irish because he sounds so much like our Terry. I have found this -

Quote:

Wogan's is Irish. Bruce's is Scottish. Both accents are as gentle as they are distinct. Both men have voices of similar timbre. In fact it is possible to switch on Bruce, hear a little Celtic banter, and think for a moment that it is Wogan. And I'll bet there were people who, when Bruce took the presenter's chair, said, 'Ah -- great mistake. You can't copy Wogan.

Well he was born in Glasgow so I guess he must be.

Taken from the BBC website:

Ken Bruce

From working in an accountant's office in Glasgow, Ken Bruce moved into broadcasting due to his ability to simply turn up at the studios and speak. After some years of reading the news, weather forecasts, fish market prices and other gripping material, he moved into presenting.
He then relocated to Radio 2 in London where he established the mid-morning show as well as presenting Pop Score and The ABC Quiz.

His interest in music has been enhanced by the many concerts he has presented. He has also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. Ken's other radio work has included broadcasting for the BBC World Service and hosting Breakaway on Radio 4.
He Beejay. I only found out he was Scottish by googling today!

4GS's answer gives the details you require. Very famous on Radio 2. I have never seen him on the television though.

My main reason for posting the question is because this Irish sounding accent he uses must be a recent aquisition, as I can remember him on Radio Scotland years ago and he spoke in a Scots accent.back then.
Ah, so he was trying to impersonate Wogan then!! I must admit I really did think he was Wogan for ages.

Maybe has Sheena Easton syndrome.... lol
I saw Ken Bruce at the weekend. He was hosting Symphonic Rock at The Royal Albert Hall. I had never heard of him before, and I have to admit, my first thought when he spoke was "Is he doing an impression of Terry Wogan?". Funny guy though

Now, halfway through this mornings show...

The Irish accent has ceased. He is now sounding distincly Scottish.

Has he been reading AB !!!

Perhaps he's one of us............ Octavius?
Ken Bruce has appeared frequently (64 times) as a guest on Channel 4's COUNTDOWN

I love his show, and never miss it when I'm in the UK. But as an Irishman I always thought he had a very strong Scots accent - must be a perspective thing.
