I think only if the death is suspicious.

The registrar will issue a certificate for the burial (in a burial ground) or cremation (in a crematorium) of the still-born child. The certificate is normally passed to the funeral director who is making the arrangements. A funeral cannot take place until this certificate is given to the burial authority or the crematorium.

If there is a delay to the registration, it is possible for a certificate for the burial (in a burial ground) to be issued before registration provided the still-birth does not need to be reported to the coroner. A certificate for cremation cannot be issued before the registration.

thats what i mean, so how come they werent getting the death certificate until a week after the funeral! yes i know its only a soap but these things annoy me!! i need to get out more
Presumably they can have a funeral using the death certificate and then register it later on (up to 3 months later)
you dont get a death cert and u can just bury the child i know this cos i had togothought the same thing as maria did
and it doesnt apply to a stillborn child
Octavius is right, there are circumstances where you can get a certificate for burial or cremation before the death is registered.

All stillbirths have to be registered by law.
theybhave to be registered yes but u dont get a death cert

yet maria and liam went to get the death registered after the funeral.
Was Corrie on lastnight?
Hi gina, its not exactly a death register. It's a stilbirth register. You can get a copy of the registry but you have to pay to get a certificate of stillbirth. This could technically be received after you get the certificate for burial or cremation that you give to the funeral directors.
Corrie was on at 7pm 'cos of the footy.
Well thats no good for people that put it on on 7.30 and then realise footies on is it. Pants
So sorry Emma that you have been through the same as Maria in Corrie x
Ok, you got me on a technicality, I said 'Death Certificate' but obviously it should have been a 'Stillbirth Certificate' but the fundamentals were all there, present and mostly correct.

I wonder if the spectators in Manchester got to see Corrie before the screen went kerplonk?
