Was there ever a real block named thus? I know it's a pi55 take of the lefty london councils in the 70's and 80's but was there really a tendency to name things after African politicians/prisoners?
There was a park in Leicester(next to the prison) called Nelson Mandela Park................it may have changed now though for all I know as it is years since I was there.Unrulyjulie should know if its still called that.
I saw Winnie Mandela's house once, in Soweto - it was quite a mansion, Soweto isn't all slum. She was standing outside and gave me a wave, and I gave her one back. But it wasn't like she knew me, she was just being friendly.
I am pretty sure my Aunt used to live in flats somewhere in London that were called Nelson Mandela house...but I was very young maybe my parents were joking????
Most universities have or had at least one building on campus called Nelson Mandela house or building. Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Manchester, London etc. A quick google will provide you with a long list.
