Was there ever a real block named thus? I know it's a pi55 take of the lefty london councils in the 70's and 80's but was there really a tendency to name things after African politicians/prisoners?

Here in Glasgow we have a Nelson Mandela square
As far as I recall we had a Winnie Mandela house in Peckham but I don't remember a Nelson one.
I saw Winnie Mandela's house once, in Soweto - it was quite a mansion, Soweto isn't all slum. She was standing outside and gave me a wave, and I gave her one back. But it wasn't like she knew me, she was just being friendly.
I am pretty sure my Aunt used to live in flats somewhere in London that were called Nelson Mandela house...but I was very young maybe my parents were joking????
Most universities have or had at least one building on campus called Nelson Mandela house or building. Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Manchester, London etc. A quick google will provide you with a long list.
