In 1958, when I was only 11 years old my older brothers & sisters used to watch Quatermass & the Pit. I wasn't really allowed to, but if my Mum & Dad went out, I used to sneak in with others & watch it. It's scared the living daylights out of me & I used to watch it between my fingers over my face! Did anyone else used to watch it? It had to be the most scariest programme I can remember!

im too young to remember it but it was one of the top 100 scariest moments on channel 4 so there must be something in it !

Hi Mattk, although Channel 4 didn't exist in those days, I don't doubt they are quite right in saying it was one of the scariest series of that era.
Smudge, I watched it from behind the sofa!

Ha, ha, Anniekon - that did make me giggle! My Mum & Dad would have gone bonkers if they'd known I was watching it too!
I think the original film was Quatermass and the Pit but was there not a follow-on TV series just called Quatermass? I remember being scared witless by the `thing that walks through walls`.
Wasn't it in Quatermass that they had some giant insect things. I seem to remember them being in underground tunnels. There was also another scary programme called 'A for Andromeda' and these creatures been in that. Black and White films were so much more frightening because of the atomosphere they created. Modern movies come nowhere near.
Sorry, 'may have been in that'!
Yeh I used to watch it and be scared to got to bed,I was only 10!

So you're only a year younger than Anniekon & me then FINA? Good old days eh?
I watched it when I was a kid in the 70's, and it scared the hell out of me. I can still picture the insect creatures now.
I've just found a picture of those insects and the theme music on the Whirligig site: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/index.htm
