This film is called switching channels & Burt Reynolds IS in it. He plays the editor/producer of a news programme and Kathleen Turner is his star reporter who is about to quit to get married.Burt then cons her to cover a "final" breaking story to show her her heart still belongs to journalism (and him). This is in effect the 3rd remake of a film called the front page made in 1931 starring Adolph Menjou and Pat O'Brien. The other remakes were His Girl Friday (1940) starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in which they were a divorced couple working on the same paper, he the editor , she the star reporter leaving to get married, and The Front Page (1974) starring Walter Mattheau(editor) & Jack Lemmon (reporter).I've not seen the original film but the Cary Grant and the Mattheau/Lemmon versions are both very good.
