The office and extras were good. His stand up however, i personally think isn't his forte. But i applaud anyone who does standup, because it looks like a tough job...
Rtaxron - me too. i find comedians who solely depend on the "taboo" a bit tiersome (but then again who dosn't). All of ricky gervais' standup (excluding his dead-on observations, at times) is no exception to this. However saying that frankie boyle tickles me occasionally when he jokes on the "taboo"...if you could even define it as that...
I see nothing appealing in him at all - he has a dreadful false laugh which he uses a lot during interviews; he never seems comfortable with himself; his whole demeanour makes me squirm with embarrassment.
Didn't bother watching as I can't stand him in stand up - find him toe-curlingly embarrassing. Ironically it's the latter that I found so brilliant in The Office which I thought was a work of genius. Liked Extras but didn't think it as good.
Agree clareybeary I don't like comedians who depend on the risque or taboo subjects for laughs.
I love Ricky Gervais. I was listening to his podcasts the other day on my way to work and nearly burst out laughing on the bus. Saw him live at the Royal Albert Hall as well. He was brilliant and the audience loved him. Sorry Mary!
