I'm thinking of taking advantage of the SKY offer of a HD+ box for 75 but I only have a digital television.
I am connected to SKY but only have a standard box.
Do I need an HD Tv??
Many thanks in advance

A HD TV is defined by the number of horizontal LINES it shows. See if you have the documentation that came with your TV and it should tell you.
A HD TV will show either 720 lines or 1080 lines.
Your TV documentation will show the screen size a 2 numbers with an X in between, such as 1366x768.
It is the SECOND number that defines the lines, so if it is 720 or 768 or 1080 (or similar numbers) then you are OK.
1080 is better than 720 or 768 but I think Sky only broadcast in 720 lines at the moment anyway

Thanks for your replies. I would get a SKY+ box but it will cost me 159 due to SKY looking after their existing customers so well(NOT)!!.
It is 99 for the box and 60 connection fee, whilst the HD+ offer is 75 + 20.
I am sure I haven't got an HD television although it is only 2 years old, all I want to know is even though I won't get a HD quality picture will the TV still get a picture??

I was wrong about Sky, according to this website they broadcast in 1080i format, although the Sky box can also be set to 720p
Either way a TV showing 720, 768 or 1080 lines will show Sky HD in High Definition

This is just for the box and fitting.
It is also another 10 a month for HD.
You could try ringing up Sky and say you want a Sky+ box so what sort of deal can they offer. Hint that you may go to Virgin for their TV / Phone offer.
Sky are often quite good at offering "deals"

There is one definitve way of finding out if your TV is HD.
Has it got a socket called HDMI at the back (check your TV documentation).
If it HAS then it is a HD TV.
Note you can ONLY connect a Sky HD box to a TV with a HDMI cable.
IF YOUR TV HAS NOT GOT A HDMI SOCKET YOU CANNOT CONNECT A SKY HD BOX TO IT.

We've had Sky+ for a few years - very worthwhile. But today got Sky+ HD. The bloody thing is only connected now thru the hdmi socket as mention further up. I cant get my beloved new tv to get channels thru hdmi. So now I have a a tv with an in-built hard drive I cant record to, Freeview I cant access and a remote control that wont change channels. If someone can advise please say so before the sky+hd is disconnected.
