Quite agree John. I saw a list of them and I think there was only about 2 I'd heard of (and I can't recall them now, so they can't be that famous!).
there is a list and profiles on www.skyone.co.uk/thematch - so yes, i could name them all and what they're famous for, but i can't be arsed to do so.
Well, there was Grant Mitchell Lookalike Man in goal (much funnier as a goalkeeper than as a comic), Scrawny Bloke From The Royle Family at left-back, Ginger Bloke Who's Been In An Advert at centre-half, erm, someone who apparently was in Dream Team in midfield (or was it Footballers' Wives? And is there any difference?), Bloke From Godawful Chav Rap Collective So Stupid Crew (or something) on the left wing, The One Who Isn't Claire, Lisa, Faye or H From Steps at right-back who did absolutely nothing before being substituted at half-time, and a sprinter who didn't win any Olympic medals for us up front. Oh, and Alec Stewart. I recognised him.
He did. The sprinter guy (otherwise known as Darren Campbell). He won gold in the 100m relay. Beat the Yanks, no less.
the majority off them were either presenters, singers or actors
I was quite impressed with the match in general though- much more interesting than watching Crystal Palace v Norwich, and better football too!
What annoyed me was the advert they kept playing in every single ad break for days and days before - 'can the beautiful people play the beautiful game?' On what grounds would that bunch of folk I'd never heard of/really didn't care about anyway be considered 'the beautiful people'? Because they have appeared on TV? Because Sky tells me they are? My gran was on a game show once - does she automatically become one of the beautiful people? I think she's lovely but I don't think she'll be needing an agent any time soon. Sorry - rant over!
I think they were referred to as 'the beautiful people' because most footballers ain't!  And (I know i should start a sentence with and but I just did, ok!) what of Jonathon Wilkes goal, cross or shot?
