Anne Frank's Diary

Did any of you see the final episode this evening?
I hadn't seen any of the previous episodes but my 10 year old daughter has been studying it at school and I watched it with her.
Even though I knew what was going to happen, I found it very powerful. The fact that the Nazis weren't sharply dressed SS officers but ordinary Germans in scruffy uniforms just doing their job, the fact that it was so close to the end of the war, the fact that it happened in my parents lifetime and the fact that it is still happening somewhere in the world today tripped a switch inside me. My daughter said it was the first time she had seen me cry. Damn you and well done the BBC.

Regarding 'raking up the past' - it's such a shame that some people do refer to the atrocities as 'all in the past', as it is indeed a very important part of history that should never be forgotten. -xx-
P.S. Reviews about 'The Silver Sword' book on here:

I wonder if they'll ever make that into a film? I'd go to watch it at the cinema if they did....

Hi smudge glad you took the 'digging up the past' comment in the right spirit and didn't think I was having a pop. You are of course right in what you say. How far in the past does something have to be before we call it history?
I was a little surprised when I learnt that my daughter was studying it at school but it did take place nearly 60 years before she was born which is akin to me doing a project on the 1910's.
You've still a little wait until the DVD arrives, if you get the chance to see it on the big screen, maybe at an arthouse cinema then I suggest you do although the chances are probably quite slim.
I'll check out 'The Silver Sword', thanks for the link.
All the best G x
Ps. I'll keep an eye on this post so let me know when you have seen 'The Boy...'

I first heard about Anne Frank in RE when I was at school in the early 80's. She is mentioned in the Time Top 100 people:-

6 million Jews and many millions of other people were sacrificed for one mans greed for power and an elite race.
Why?
