Sir Cliff and Sandy Shaw were well known artists when they competed. I think they should have one of the well known acts to represent us.
Except if you are well known, why bother degrading yourself with it?
Question Author
I forgot about Cliff and Sandie Shaw. True, Postdog, but surely there must be somebody reasonably well known who would do it - it would be quite something for your career to have Andrew Lloyd Webber write a song especially for you to perform.
Even if you get completely humiliated by coming last (more or less) in this farce?
I think most 'known' people wouldn't touch Eurovision with a bargepole. Let's face it, everybody hates us and we will never get any votes so it is just plain humiliating!
Lulu was also well known when she appeared in it.

Celine Dion and Julio Engalses (sp?) both appeared in it (not for UK of course), but neither were well known at the time.

I doubt if you would get anyone well known to appear for UK nowadays as the voting is now so fixed that we would still come near the bottom even if we had Take That representing us with a song written by Gary Barlow.

Come to think of it, how about Geraldine McQueen (Peter Kay) representing UK, he/she has done OK with the two first singles.

I like the idea of Peter Kay doing it as Geraldine! So basically we're going to be humiliated again this year, albeit with a slightly better written song! And without Terry Wogan's commentary which is the most amusing thing about it!
Saw on teletext that ALW has asked an American woman songwriter to write the lyrics to his music which has really got up the noses of our own British writers, but it seems that it doesn't matter which country we get the lyrics from. If after all this we still get nowhere then I really think we should just give up!
